CrossWalk Communication - October 25, 2020

Since the start of in-person worship we have tried to keep you up-to-date with the most current happenings at CrossWalk Church. We are reopening slowly, turning the dial forward, opening a little at a time. But, because of a number of reasons, in the next few weeks we will need to dial back a little bit on our reopening plan.

Turning the dial back

During the past week a number of faculty and students at Arizona Lutheran Academy have tested positive for Covid- 19. They will not have in-person school until November 9, 2020. Because we are using their classrooms for CWLK Kids and because at least one of the students who tested positive at ALA also volunteered for CWLK Kids, we have decided to close CWLK Kids for 3 weeks, setting a tentative reopen plan for November 15, 2020. All of the parents who have sent their children to CWLK Kids have been contacted and are aware of the situation.

Worship Options for October and November:

We will continue to offer the same online and in-person worship options at this time. Because we are able to accommodate the number of people that are coming with adequate distancing, there is no need to register for in-person worship.

In Midtown we will continue to meet at 5:00 pm on Saturdays for worship at New Valley Church Downtown 1801 E. Osborn, Phoenix AZ 85016. We can accommodate up to 60 people in this worship area.

In Laveen we will continue to use Arizona Lutheran Academy  for 9:00 am and 11:00 am worship until further notice. We can accommodate at least 140 people per service in this location and will have youth worship at 11:00 am as well.

We will continue to offer online worship at 9 am and 11 am at as well as on our Youtube Channel at 9 am. Our YouTube channel will also offer our weekly messages to you on demand. We will continue to offer in-person options that we believe are safe and in line with state and local health mandates. Please continue to look at the news page of our website for the most up to date information.

Youth Worship Will Stay Open:

We will continue to have youth worship for youth in 6th - 12th grade at the 11 am service. The youth will start in main worship for the music portion and then go to a classroom for a message with Phil Bishoff and the youth mentors. Please note that the youth will use masks and practice social distancing.

CrossWalk Kids plans to Reopen November 15, 2020:

CWLK Kids plans to reopen in phases. We will retake the first step starting on November 15, 2020 when we will offer classes for kids grades K- 5.

Our CrossWalk Kids team has prepared materials to assist families in worship for all of our services. Parents can use family activities including a video, family devotion and coloring page to enhance worship for kids. Click here to access these materials online.

Families are welcome and encouraged to come with their children to in-person worship at both locations.

What should I expect at worship services in October and November?

We will continue to follow local mandates: The state and local government have pages of suggested guidelines for worship institutions and the general population to follow when meeting. We will do our best to follow these guidelines. Here are just a few you can expect:

  • Masks required to enter the worship area.

  • Masks required during any singing or speaking.

  • Masks encouraged but not required during the message.

  • Physical distancing of 6ft from those outside of your family.

  • Available hand sanitizer.

  • Limited singing and congregational speaking.

  • Limited, but increasing attendance each week.

  • We ask those feeling sick to stay home.

  • We also encourage those in high-risk categories to stay safer at home.

We will exceed some safety guidelines. Our mantra for worship reopening is that we want people to be “saved and safe”. We understand that churches are exempt from certain state and city mandates. Even though this is true, we will do our best to go above and beyond what is required in order to keep our people as safe as possible.

We will depend on our volunteers to return. CrossWalk always has and always will depend on volunteers. If you plan to return for worship, please plan to serve. If you desire to serve and you don’t know where to start, send an email to and we will contact you with options for service!

Humility, communication, flexibility and respect. We know that there are many ways that a reopening of a church could take place. We ask that everyone in the CrossWalk family has the humility to admit that we don’t have all the answers. We ask that if something is unclear that you communicate with us and we will do our best to communicate with you. We ask for flexibility as our plans will very likely change at some point. And finally, we ask for a mutual love and respect for each other. It’s inevitable that we will have differing points of view about how to move forward, but we want to keep in the front of our minds that we are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Whether you are someone who is ready to come back for the first time or someone who won’t be able to come back for a while, we ask for your prayers and partnership in sharing the good news of Jesus. We will continue to work together to share the gospel and we are thankful that you are joining the CrossWalk family in doing it.
